Muslim Holidays 2027: The Full Islamic Calendar
On this page
The main Muslim holidays in 2027 are expected to be: Ramadan from around February 8, Eid al-Fitr around March 9, the Day of Arafah on May 15, Eid al-Adha on May 16 (May 17 in South Asia), the Islamic New Year around June 6 and Ashura around June 15. All dates depend on the moon sighting.
The Islamic calendar follows the moon, so every Muslim holiday moves about 11 days earlier each year.

These dates follow the Umm al-Qura calendar and astronomical forecasts. Many countries and mosques confirm each month by sighting the moon, so your local date can be a day later. Laylat al-Qadr may fall on any odd night of the last ten nights of Ramadan. The 27th is the night most people give special attention to.
Not every observance in the table is agreed on by all Muslims. Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha are the only two Eids in Islam. See are there two Eids?
Muslim holidays in May, June and July 2027
May: the busiest month of the year. Dhul Hijjah begins around May 7, the Day of Arafah is on May 15, and Eid al-Adha is on May 16. The days of Qurbani run until sunset on May 18 (19 for Shafi’is). There is more detail in Eid al-Adha 2027 date.
June: the Islamic New Year, 1 Muharram 1449, falls around June 6. Ashura, the 10th of Muharram, is around June 15. The Prophet ﷺ fasted Ashura and said it expiates the sins of the year before (Sahih Muslim 1162). He also intended to fast the 9th as well, so many people fast June 14 and 15.
July: there are no major holidays in July 2027. The month of Safar begins around July 5 or 6.

The Eid holiday in the USA
Neither Eid is a federal holiday in the United States. In practice:
- Schools: New York City public schools close for both Eids, and so do a growing number of districts in New Jersey, Michigan, Minnesota, Texas, Maryland and elsewhere. Elsewhere, students can usually ask for an excused absence.
- Work: employers have to reasonably accommodate religious observance under Title VII. Most people book a personal or vacation day. Ask early, since the exact date is only confirmed a few days before.
- 2027: Eid al-Fitr is expected on a Tuesday and Eid al-Adha on a Sunday, which makes Eid al-Adha easier for many families.
For how Eid is marked in other countries, see Eid in India, USA, Pakistan and Bangladesh.
Planning around Eid al-Adha
If you are giving Qurbani, the Sunnah is not to cut your hair or nails from 1 Dhul Hijjah (around May 7) until your animal has been sacrificed. Fast the Day of Arafah on May 15 if you can. Your Qurbani can be done from after the Eid prayer until the 12th. The Eid al-Adha 2027 Qurbani guide has a day-by-day plan, and the Qurbani rules explain the conditions.
