Eid al-Adha 2027: Your Qurbani Planning Guide
On this page
Eid al-Adha 2027 (10 Dhul Hijjah 1448) is expected on Sunday, May 16, 2027 in Saudi Arabia, the US and the UK, and on Monday, May 17 in much of South Asia. The Day of Arafah is expected on Saturday, May 15. Qurbani can be given from after the Eid prayer until sunset on Tuesday, May 18 (Wednesday, May 19 in the Shafi’i school).
Eid al-Adha 2027, also called Eid al-Qurban or Eid al-Hajj, falls in mid-May. That is earlier than many people expect, because the Islamic calendar moves back about 11 days each year.

These are North American and UK dates. In India, Pakistan and Bangladesh, everything is likely to fall one day later. All dates depend on the moon sighting. The Eid al-Adha 2027 date page explains the forecast, and is Eid tomorrow? explains how the final announcement is made.
Before Dhul Hijjah: decide and reserve
Work out how many Qurbanis your household owes. In the Hanafi school, every adult who owns the nisab gives their own. A goat or sheep covers one person, and a cow share covers one person, so you can mix them. If you’re unsure who has to give, see is Qurbani mandatory?
If you are giving through a charity, reserve in good time. Animals are bought in the weeks before Eid, and prices at the markets rise sharply in the last few days.
The first ten days: 7 to 15 May
The Prophet ﷺ said no days are better for good deeds than these ten (Sahih al-Bukhari 969). A simple plan:
- Fast what you can of the first nine days. Above all, fast the Day of Arafah. It expiates the sins of the year before and the year after (Sahih Muslim 1162).
- Say plenty of Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah and Alhamdulillah.
- Give extra sadaqah, even small amounts.
- If you are giving Qurbani, don’t cut your hair or nails until your animal is sacrificed (Sahih Muslim 1977).
Our Dhul Hijjah fasting guide covers the rulings in more detail.

Eid day: Sunday, May 16
- Take a ghusl, wear your best clothes and put on perfume.
- Don’t eat before the prayer. The Sunnah on Eid al-Adha is to eat afterwards, ideally from your Qurbani.
- Say the takbeer aloud on the way to the prayer, and go back by a different route.
- Pray the two rak’ahs of Eid and listen to the khutbah. Here is how to pray the Eid al-Adha prayer.
- Your Qurbani can now be slaughtered. Never before the prayer.
The Qurbani itself
For the sacrifice to count, the animal has to be a sheep, goat, cow, buffalo or camel of the right age: 1 year for a goat or sheep (or a well-grown sheep of 6 months in the Hanafi school), 2 years for cattle and 5 for a camel. It must be free of clear blindness, illness, lameness or extreme thinness (Sunan Abu Dawud 2802). It is slaughtered alive with a sharp knife and Bismillahi Allahu Akbar. The meat is ideally shared between your household, relatives and the poor. The full detail is in the Qurbani rules.
Days of Tashreeq: 17 to 19 May
Keep saying the takbeer after every fard prayer until Asr on the 13th. Don’t fast; these are days of eating, drinking and remembering Allah (Sahih Muslim 1141). If your Qurbani hasn’t been done yet, it must be done before sunset on the 12th (or the 13th if you follow the Shafi’i school).
Giving Qurbani 2027 from the West
Most families in the US, UK, Canada and Australia give their Qurbani through a charity. Local slaughter usually means pre-stunning, and finding poor families to give the meat to is hard. When you choose a charity, ask whether the animals are stunned, whether slaughter waits for the Eid prayer and who receives the meat.
With Qurbani Charity, your animal is bought and checked in rural Bangladesh and slaughtered by hand after the Eid prayer there, with no stunning. The meat is shared out fresh among Rohingya refugees and poor village families, and you get photos and video. A cow share is $170, a sheep $175, a goat $200 and a whole cow $1,190.
Quick questions
Can I give my Qurbani early? You can reserve and pay early, but the animal can only be slaughtered after the Eid prayer.
What if Eid is on a different day where the animal is? What matters is the date and the Eid prayer where the animal is slaughtered. Your own hair-and-nails rule ends when you are told your animal has been sacrificed.
Is Eid al-Qurban the same as Eid al-Adha? Yes. Eid al-Qurban, Eid al-Hajj, Bakrid and Eid ul Adha are all names for the same day. See what is Eid ul Adha for the meaning behind it.
